Baritone star Helen Tyler and Besson Musical Instruments are spearheading a new educational project in the USA aimed at familiarising young brass players with the brass band genre.
Workshops
After a number of successful BRASS EXPO workshops based in Kansas City with the Fountain City Brass Band, she and other member of the Fountain City Brass coaching team are looking forward to presenting the weekend workshops all over the USA and Canada, in connection with Besson.
This is a wonderful opportunity for me to pass on my enthusiasm and experience of brass bands to a whole new audience across in the USAHelen Tyler
First
The first of these national EXPO’s is to be held the last week of May in Pensacola, Florida, and will allow brass players from local schools and universities to spend the weekend in rehearsals and sectionals.
They will get the opportunity to perform standard brass band repertoire and try out traditional instruments such as cornets, tenor horns and baritones.
Excited
Helen told 4BR: "I am extremely excited to be part of the Besson team both as a clinician and as a brass education specialist. This is a wonderful opportunity for me to pass on my enthusiasm and experience of brass bands to a whole new audience across in the USA."
Although heavily involved with these projects across the pond, she will continue her duties as Wider Opportunities Manager and Brass Tutor with Bolton Music Service when she returns to the UK.
Fodens
Commenting on her position with Fodens Brass Band, Helen said: "Both Fodens and myself have had a busy and exciting year which has eventually lead us in separate directions. I will remain a fan of Fodens and wish them success in the future."
