Perseverance pays off for Roberts

Roberts Bakery Band celebrate regional title.

Roberts Bakery

Roberts Bakery Band are celebrating after winning the First Section at the recent North West Area contest in Blackpool.

Many people will know already that Roberts Bakery is no normal First Section band. Conductor Colin Cranson has now been at the helm for over 30 years and during this time has taken the band from the Fourth Section up to the Championship Section and maintained a place in the top two sections for most of this time.

The win was especially deserving for Tim Sage. For 27 years Tim has played 3rd cornet with Roberts and Sunday was his first area contest win4BR

27 year wait

On Sunday Roberts fielded a band featuring just five players over the age of 30 and their solo horn and euphonium were both just 16. The win was especially deserving for Tim Sage. For 27 years Tim has played 3rd cornet with Roberts and Sunday was his first area contest win.

Looking forward

Roberts Bakery will now look forward to Whit Friday where they are currently best non-championship band at Delph for the past two years, and the finals in Harrogate which come just a week after the bands annual visit to Schlema, Germany where they play to audiences of over 6000 in a wind music festival.
