On Saturday the 16th February at the annual Brass Band League Solo and Quartet competition members of the 1st Old Boys Band had a great day out.
Indivdual awards
Adjudicator Jack Burch awarded Nathan Thompson on cornet the under 11’s award, Peter Mercer on tuba won the under 17s, and in the B Solos, Tom Black came runner up on horn.
Mark Bingham won the Slow Melody section on cornet.
Quartet success
Mark and Brian also came 2nd and 3rd in the A solos, whilst the bands A quartet of Mark Bingham, Morris Cameron, Brian Connolly and Alan Haworth directed by Ronnie Kennedy Sn, playing ‘Variations on a theme by Paganini’ were awarded 99 points out of 100.
All in All a very successful day!

Band victory
On the 23rd February the band won the newly revived ‘Valley Entertainments Contest’ in Fivemiletown.

The Band is now looking forward to the forthcoming BBL own choice contest and The All England International Masters.
