Invitation Slow Melody launches for 08

The search is on again to find the musician who will win the right to perform in the prestige Invitation Slow Melody event at the New Zealand Brass Band Championships — Festival of Brass in July this year.

Nominations can now be made on www.brassnz.co.nz/contests/htm to select the public vote winner to compete in the event.

Automatic entry

Automatic entry into the event has been accepted by last years winner Riki McDonnell and by the holding of the current Champion of Champions title Phillip Johnston.

Bremner declines

Runner up in the 2007 ISM event Trevor Bremner has declined his automatic entry as he has retired from all solo playing. (Although not from all performing as he will be playing the tenor horn for a local band at the Australian Band Championships in Brisbane over Easter.)

Nomination closing date

Nominations for the public vote will close at midnight, Good Friday, 21st of March after which time the website will be open for voting from Easter Monday 24th March. The highest polling player at the close of voting at midnight, Friday the 18th of April will be offered a place in the 2008 Invitation Slow Melody event.
