Powys youth enjoy success

North Powys Youth Band has had a busy, but succesful time of late.

Following their success at the Gwent Music Festival the members of the band and the North Powys Training Band entertained their counterparts from the Gwynedd-Ynys Mon Youth Band at Welshpool.

Workshop

An afternoon workshop and rehearsal saw over a hundred young musicians come together to enjoy making music together.

Conductors of the youth bands Steve Edwards and Gwyn Evans were thrilled by the high standard of performance from these very talented youngsters.

The evening concert at Theatre Clera was a spectacular event with all four bands showing what an array of musical talent was on show with some very innovative performances ranging from Scottish Overtures to African Drumming and Swahili chanting4BR

Swahili chanting

The training bands were also in fine form under the direction of Philip Pryce and John Glyn Jones. The evening concert at Theatre Clera was a spectacular event with all four bands showing what an array of musical talent was on show with some very innovative performances ranging from Scottish Overtures to African Drumming and Swahili chanting.

Talent

The whole event was a testament to the remarkable young talent on show. Gwyn Evans said he hoped this would become an annual event and invited both the North Powys bands to North Wales next year an invitation readily accepted by Steve Edwards.

A vote of thanks was given by Chairperson Helen Pryce in appreciation of all the hard work put in by the conductors, tutors and players.
