A new band in Norway is receiving a huge investment from its local community to try and fast track it to the very top of the country’s banding movement.
1 Million Krone
Fjell Brass conducted by Svein Henrik Giske took part in the Fourth Division at the Norwegian National Championships held at the Grieg Hall in Bergen on the weekend and repaid the first instalment of the reported 1 million Krone long term investment (around £90,000) from the council of Fjell Kommune just outside Bergen, by coming second and gaining promotion to the Third Division for 2009.
It is hoped that if the investment pays off as expected then the band could well be competing against the likes of Eikanger, Stavanger and the rest of the best bands in the country within the next five years4BR
First step
The new band was started in August last year and has already made a mark at the SIDDIS Contest late last year when they came joint 7th. Now they have taken the biggest step yet on their journey towards the promised land of the Elite Section.
Tender
Fjell had to tender for the investment against another band from the region and their case was supported by Norges Musikkorps Forbund.
It is hoped that if the investment pays off as expected then the band could well be competing against the likes of Eikanger, Stavanger and the rest of the best bands in the country within the next five years.
