Whilst Cory's MD Bob Childs is in Norway preparing Manger Musikklag for their forthcoming National Championships, David Childs has been taking rehearsals at the Welsh Champion.
Great job
Although David is still not fit enough to begin playing he was able to step in last minute and put the band through its paces concentrating on Eric Ball's 'Festival Music' and repertoire for the band's forthcoming concert in Bratton on Avon in a few weeks time.
Austin Davies told 4BR: "David did a great job but we'll all be pleased to see him in his principal euphonium seat as soon as possible."
I have tranfered my registration from Black Dyke to Cory. If the need arises I will play solo euphonium and I invite a guest conductor to front Cory at the contestBob Childs
33 year old comeback
Meanwhile Bob Childs told 4BR that everyone at Cory is remaining optimistic that David will be fit to play at the Welsh Area Contest but said that as a precaution that he may make a comeback playing at the Welsh Area contest for the first time since 1975!
"I have tranfered my registration from Black Dyke, who have held my playing registration since I last played for them, to Cory. If the need arises I will play solo euphonium and I invite a guest conductor to front Cory at the contest."
Bob revealed that several conductors have offered to help in this capacity, including Elgar Howarth.
