Liverpool 08 Capital of Culture has funded the commission of a new work for brass band from Pianist, composer, and music educator Tom Moss, BA (hons) Mmus,.
Tom Moss, who was born in Liverpool, studied composition with Martin Ellerby and has won the pestigious Vivian Ellis Prize for new musical theatre.
He has written music for numerous geners including music for Cellist Jonathan Aasgaard and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.
Working with Tom Moss to bring the brass band commission to performance has been Lynda Nicholson (St Helens Youth Band).
The four movement piece for Brass Band entitled "Diamonds" will receive its world premiere at St Georges Hall, Liverpool on Saturday 15th March 2008.
It will be performed by Rainford, Wirral, Formby and St Helens Youth Brass Band during the Performing Brass Arts Festival as part of the Liverpool Capital of Culture celebrations.
