St Magnus for Scottish Open

Kenneth Downie's popular work will return to Scotland this year as the set work for the Scottish Open in November.

Perth

After the success of the event last year, the Scottish Brass Band Association has announced that the 2008 Scottish Open Championship will take place on Saturday 29th November in Perth Concert Hall.

St. Magnus

This year the set test piece for the top section bands at the Scottish Open will be ‘St. Magnus’ by Kenneth Downie. First commissioned by SBBA for the 2004 European Brass Band Championships in Glasgow, it has proved to be a winner with both bands and audiences alike.

With the success of the 2007 event, Perth Concert Hall has now become the permanent home for the championships. The weekend will also incorporate the Scottish Challenge Shield, Cup and Youth Championships whilst the Scottish Youth Championships will take place on Sunday 30th November.

Shield and Cup

The Scottish Challenge Shield and Cup events are for Scottish Bands only at present, but if interest is shown from lower section bands in other parts of the UK, then consideration would be given in future years.

Entry

Bands interested in taking part are invited to make application now to Event Manager, Peter Fraser, 62 Fellsview Avenue, Kirkintilloch, Glasgow G66 2LX or email events@sbba.org.uk.

Invitations will be issued after the 30th April.
