Percussionist Dave Danford is gearing up for the European-premiere of the latest concerto from Ney Rosauro.
Rosauro is arguably the world’s most successful contemporary composer of music for solo percussion. His first concerto for marimba has been performed by over 1000 orchestras worldwide and he’s followed this with two percussion concertos, a vibraphone concerto, a timpani concerto and a second marimba concerto.
Serenata
The new work is 'Serenata', a four-movement concerto for marimba and vibraphone. As an added twist a number of sections require the soloist to play the two instruments simultaneously.
'Serenata' is a melodic work, creating the perfect balance between virtuosity, lyricism and musicality.

Premieres
The European-premiere will take place with the Welsh Sinfonia at Llandaff Cathedral on Friday 25th January.
The following weekend Dave will be involved in another solo percussion premiere. On Sunday 3rd February he will be giving the first full performance of his version of Vaughan Williams' Concerto Accademico with the RNCM String Orchestra, as part of the annual Day of Percussion at the Royal Northern College of Music.
