One last step for Armstrong

Horn star Martin Armstrong has taken his last step out with Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Horn star Martin Armstrong has informed 4BR that he has finished playing with current National Champions, Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

Busy

"I informed the band a few months back that work was getting ever more increasingly busy and I was finding it more and more difficult to make rehearsals and concerts.

Being based in Sunderland and being a sales rep travelling all over the UK didn’t help, and with the 250 mile round trip putting 60,000 miles on my car in a year and taking about 10 years off my life in the process I thought it best if they look for someone to take my place."

The lads at the band are an amazing bunch both musically and socially. Highlights have to be working with Alan Withington, The Proms Concert and winning the Nationals playing 'Music for Battle Creek'Martin Armstrong

Great times

Martin added: "I’ve had a great time with the band, fulfilling a lifetimes ambition to sit in the solo horn chair of Grimethorpe. The lads at the band are an amazing bunch both musically and socially.
Highlights have to be working with Alan Withington, The Proms Concert and winning the Nationals playing 'Music for Battle Creek'."

He concluded: "It’s been a pleasure and I wish them all the best for the future. Arfon Owen takes over now and he's an unbelievable talent and deserves the seat."
