Claire Cope, whose work, 'The Green Chapel' made such an impression at the RNCM International Brass Band Festival performed by Foden's Band earlier this year, has been commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society to write a work for a UK audience.
Claire joins fellow composers Amy Crankshaw, Anibal Vidal, Edward Mascall-Robson, Jingyu Chen, Joanna Lee, Louis Palfrey and Ruby Colley, who over the next 12 months will be supported in their professional development with workshops and mentoring with the highly respected Ruth Cooper-Dickson.
Each will also collaborate with a performance partner, including Cowbridge Music Festival, City of London Sinfonia, Fenella Humphreys Violin, Leeds Song, Onyx Brass, Presteigne Festival, Ryedale Festival and Swaledale Festival.
Thrilled
Reflecting on the news, Claire posted on her Facebook page: "I am absolutely thrilled to be a Royal Philharmonic Society commissioned composer this year, as part of their 2027 Composers Programme!
It is a huge honour, and surprise, to be part of this extremely talented cohort and also to get to write a new chamber work that will be premiered at the wonderful Ryedale Festival next year.
Thanks so much to the RPS for believing in me and to lots of wonderful people who have helped me so much in the last few years. I am very grateful for any chance I get to write new music."
