Boscombe Band of the Salvation Army has been celebrating its 140th anniversary throughout 2026.
The band has been the musical bedrock of its church in Bournemouth since 1886, accompanying hymn singing and providing music selections to aid worship, whilst also taking the Christian message out in their community and beyond, including to Europe, the USA and Canada.
They have also made a number of acclaimed recordings and has worked with several outstanding bandmasters and composers including current incumbent, Dr Howard Evans, as well as the likes of Herbert Mountain, Kenneth Cook and Kenneth Downie.
Musical centrepiece
The musical centrepiece of the year though will see Black Dyke Band featured in a special concert at the Boscombe Salvation Army Hall on Saturday 7th November.
It is also one that strengthens a connection that was made when an ensemble from the band gave two open air bandstand concerts that lifted spirits after Boscombe had been unable to make music for over 18 months together due to Covid-19.
Thrilled
A spokesperson told 4BR: "We were understandably thrilled when Black Dyke Band aid they would be able to return in full force to entertain us all again, and this joint concert is not to be missed.
We are almost sold out and we have had a wonderful uptake from people also buying our special 'Boscombe Band 140' brochure which will be available on the night."
