The Elgar International Brass Band Summer School (EIBBSS) is to hold a brace of specialist workshops to help performers with their preparation for the 2027 Regional Championship test-pieces.
Led by Flowers MD, Paul Holland and tutors from the EIBBSS two workshops will take place at Bromsgrove School on Sunday 10th and Sunday 31st January.
First to Fourth Section
Each will provide instrumentalists from First to Fourth Section bands with an opportunity to gain invaluable insight and performance tips into the works they are to perform, through focussed tutoring.
A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are building on the reputation established by our successful Summer and Winter Schools, to enable players to benefit from a distinctive combination of expert tuition, inspirational music-making and an enjoyable learning environment ahead of the Regional Championships."
First day
The first workshop, on Sunday 10th January, is aimed at players from Fourth and Third Section competing bands and will be led by Paul Holland with tutors Luke Barker (cornets); Emily Evans (horns and flugels); Daniel Thomas (euphoniums and baritones); Christopher Thomas (trombones); Shaun Crowther (basses) and Matt Rigg (percussion).
Second day
The second workshop, on Sunday 31st January, will focus on the Second and First Sections, with Paul aided by Paul Richards (cornets); Emily Evans (horns and flugels); Daniel Thomas (euphoniums and baritones); Christopher Thomas (trombones); Stewart Baglin (basses) and Coco Chan (percussion).
The cost is £40 per player. Participants will enjoy a half-day of focused sectional coaching and ensemble playing.
Stimulating
The spokesperson added: "Our Summer and Winter Schools have demonstrated just how much musicians value the opportunity to work with outstanding performers and educators in a supportive, stimulating environment.
We wanted to extend that experience into the contesting season and offer players something genuinely useful as they prepare for the Regional Championships.
