It has been reported that The Navigation Inn, arguably the most famous brass band pub in the world, has perhaps called time on serving customers for good.
Set in the heart of Whit Friday contest country in Dobcross in Saddleworth, it has been a mecca for brass band fans over the years with it walls covered in memorabilia of many famous bands and personalities — from the CWS (Manchester) Band to Harry Mortimer and more.
Scratch band
Former landlord Ian Gibson regularly invited players to perform in its own 'scratch band', Navigation Brass at the famous Whit Friday contests, whilst composer Philip Sparke later wrote the march 'Navigation Inn' in its honour.
A last drink
Now the doors are to be closed after a last call was made by the current landlord to enjoy "a last drink"this week.
At present however there has been no indication of its immediate future or what will happen to the brass band memorabilia.
