Award-winning composer Gavin Higgins has spoken of his pride in becoming the new President of Tredegar Band.

He takes on the role ahead of a busy year of high-profile music publications, CD releases, projects and concerts featuring his music. It includes the long-awaited premiere HD Atmos CD recording of 'Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra' alongside the National Orchestra of Wales, directed by Ryan Bancroft, which is due for release in February.

In addition, Tredegar's 'Dark Arteries' CD of his music, which won the 2015 4BR CD of the Year will be re-issued as will a new release of previously unrecorded works.

Close to heart

Speaking to 4BR the Royal Philharmonic Society, Ivor Novello and Sky Arts award winner said: "I'm thrilled to accept this position with a band that is so close to my heart.

They have been pioneers, advocates and ambassadors for my works for well over 15 years and counting. I'm delighted, especially with such an exciting year ahead of us both."

Huge benefit

In response, Tredegar's newly elected Chairperson, Rob Westacott added: "With the band celebrating 150 years of history in 2026, we couldn't think of a better person to be our President as we plan for an equally exciting future.

Our long term connection with Gavin has been of huge musical benefit to the band, and it's one that we are determined to enhance further in the years to come."
