The Blackley Band has announced the appointment of Joey Wong as its new Musical Director.

The 23 year old has already gained plaudits for his conducting — coming third in the Brass Band Conductors' Association Conducting Competition, as well as reaching the final of the National Youth Brass Band Conducting Competition.

Having moved from Hong Kong to study music in the UK, he has enjoyed top section experience playing solo trombone with Wingates Band, and has already enjoyed conducting with Vernon Building Society (Poynton) Band.

Experience

The peripatetic music teacher has recently completed a year as an Ensemble Leader with Resonate, and has further developed his conducting by working with leading ensembles and bands, including the RNCM Wind Orchestra, Hepworth, Hammonds and KNDS Fairey.

A spokesperson stated: "We're incredibly excited to welcome Joey and look forward to seeing what the future holds as we begin this next chapter together."
