'11 March 1917' is an emotive Great War homage written in memory of Henry Nichols, who lost his life at Biaches, France.
Personal memorial
Commissioned by euphonium player Micah Dominic Parsons — the great-grandson of Henry Nichols, the central figure of homage, the work serves as both a deeply personal memorial and a universal acknowledgment of all who perished in the First World War.
Rather than depicting the literal events of battle, the soloist guides the listener through a landscape of quiet grief, reflection, and quiet honour with a wide emotional arc or expressive depth. It is a hauntingly beautiful addition to the modern euphonium repertoire.
