As highlighted on 4BR, City of Bristol Band has just completed the first of two weekends of filming related to a 'Time Capsule' recording project — part of its 90th anniversary celebrations.
It saw the band record the music of Thomas Bigood, G. F. Handel, Grace Williams, Christopher Painter and Chris Marshall, as well as a recently rediscovered march, 'The Chindits' by former Musical Director, Alwyn Lloyd.
Fantastic weekend
Speaking to 4BR, COBBB Chairperson Andrew Read said: "It was a fantastic weekend and we were really able to tell the story of the evolution of the band — from its beginning as Fishponds British Legion in 1936 to recent times."
He added: "It's been wonderful to be in contact with the family of Alwyn Lloyd and to receive from them an archive of materials which includes newspaper articles and cassette recordings that we had no idea existed until now."
More treasures
4BR was informed these will now be digitised, whilst the band is making an appeal to see if there are any other hidden treasures ready to be unearthed.
City of Bristol will undertake a second weekend of recording with Films@59 and Boomsatsuma in the autumn, with the films released toward the year end.
