The KNDS Fairey Band is to provide a 75th birthday concert later this year celebrating the musical life of composer Philip Sparke.
'Philip Sparke at 75' will take place at The Cosmo Rodewald Concert Hall, in Manchester on Sunday 27th September.
Major works
It is just a couple of weeks after the band will have performed his epic 'Music of the Spheres' at the British Open Championship and a just week before they head to the Royal Albert Hall to play his 'A Road Less Travelled By' at the National Finals.
Both works will be featured in a programme Philip has helped curate alongside the vibrant opener 'Jubilee Overture'. Principal cornet Iain Culross features as the soloist in 'Manhattan', whilst there will also be the opportunity to enjoy 'Lakeland Variations', which was used at the 2023 Second Section National Finals.
Tribute
KNDS Fairey Band spokesperson, James Parkinson told 4BR: "We're delighted that Philip has been assisting with the curation of the concert. His music is loved across the world and will still be performed in another 75 years and beyond, but we hope our tribute will be enjoyed by as many brass band supporters here and now."
