Tredegar Band recently performed in its hometown as part of the annual Aneurin Bevan Day celebrations.
During their performance MD Ian Porthouse was presented with a certificate of recognition from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council to congratulate the band on their achievements over the last century and a half — including their podium finish at the recent European Championships in Linz.
150 years
Borough Councillor Chris Smith told the audience who enjoyed the band's concert at the town's Bedwellty Park: "I know the people of the town and the Borough of Blaenau Gwent are very proud of the achievements of Tredegar Band over the past 150 years. Like Aneurin Bevan they carry the name of the town with pride across the world."
Pride
In response, Ian Porthouse told 4BR: "The Bevan Day concert is one we are always proud to be part of and continues a musical connection that has seen us honour the founder of the NHS.
We are now hoping to strengthen that local connection with further concerts in the town in the coming year as we celebrate our 150th anniversary."
