Wright & Round: UNITY (Philip Harper)

A work with a message to brighten up any start to a concert.

Unity
The work is a short uplifting fanfare

Inspired by one of the most challenging periods in recent banding history, Philip Harper's 'UNITY' carries a message that remains as relevant today as it was in 2020.

Spirit of banding

Originally written as the anthem for the Indoor Music Games (IMG) season finale, the cancellation of the event due to COVID-19 led instead to a large-scale virtual performance project, bringing musicians together when they could not meet in person. The result was a powerful reminder that the spirit of banding extends far beyond the rehearsal room.

Compact, uplifting and full of energy, UNITY is a bright fanfare-style work that makes an excellent concert opener. At just under 3 minutes in duration, it delivers an immediate impact while being accessible to bands from around Third Section standard upwards.
