Glover enjoys Castleton concert memory

Grimethorpe's solo euphonium recently enjoyed a trip to Suffolk — so much so, he will return again.

Castleton Brass recently welcomed Grimethorpe Colliery Band's solo euphonium, Mark Glover, as guest soloist for a concert in Suffolk.

Sponsored by Sterling Musical Instruments it featured a varied programme with Mark performing 'Eire Time' by Andrea Price and 'Travelling Along' by Chris Mallett, alongside a duet with Castleton's own solo euphonium, Frankie Ayers.

Collaboration

The collaboration followed a recent East Anglian Brass Band Association (EABBA) training day, where Grimethorpe players worked with musicians from across the region.

Mark's involvement prompted the invitation from Castleton Brass, whilst he will return later this year for an EABBA initiative with players from Foden's and Brighouse & Rastrick.

Castleton also performed Holst's 'Second Suite in F' and Wilfred Heaton's 'Praise' under MD, Dave Charles, with former British Army musician Ian Sturgeon the entertaining compere.

Impressed

Speaking about the event, EABBA Secretary, Christine Wade said: "The band have had lots of feedback saying it was an excellent concert and that they were very impressed by Mark's excellent playing — all from memory."
