Jamie Smith has announced that he has stepped down as principal cornet of Grimethorpe Colliery Band.
Writing on his Facebook page he stated that it was a decision that had taken "a lot of thought". He added: "Following conversations with the band, we've mutually agreed that now feels like the right time for this change."
No drama
Appointed in 2022, it brings to an end his second tenure in the role, with the A4 Brass Quintet player adding: "There's absolutely no drama or controversy, just the start of an exciting new chapter for me.
I've had some incredible memories and met some truly special people, but now is the time to focus on new projects.
A big thank you to everyone I've shared the stage with over the years, and I wish the band all the very best for the future."
Impact
Grimethorpe Band Manager Andy Kennedy told 4BR: "The band would like to thank Jamie for his incredible impact during his tenure with us. A consummate professional and a gifted performer, Jamie has led by example through every concert and contest.
His commitment to excellence and his spirit of bandsmanship have left a lasting mark on this ensemble, and he will be greatly missed."
4BR understands that an announcement of a new principal cornet will be made in due course.
