Brenton Broadstock is an acclaimed composer and educator who has been presented with the Order of Australia for his work with orchestral, chamber and brass band ensembles around the world.
'King' is a major new addition to the trombone repertoire, commissioned in 2024 by Brett Baker as a personal homage to his mentor, the conductor Prof. David King.
Concertino
This compelling concertino seeks to capture the multifaceted personality of its namesake through three distinct movements:
i. Rhapsodic: A movement defined by fluid tempo shifts and evocative mood changes.
ii. Introspective: A generous, lyrical section that highlights the expressive capabilities of the soloist.
iii. Fast & Passionate: A high-energy finale characterized by determination, optimism, and rhythmic drive.
Brilliance
The work is constructed with pitch material derived directly from the name 'David,' establishing a thematic core woven throughout the entire ensemble texture, which combines technical brilliance with profound musical narrative.
