The British Brass Chamber Music Day takes place on Saturday 25th April at Wigmore Hall in London.
It will showcase some of the leading small junior brass ensembles from across the UK performing in memory of the late, great Philip Jones CBE, including the Purcell School Brass Ensemble, the Wells Cathedral School Brass Quintet and the Royal College of Music Junior Quintet.
Legacy
Philip Jones (1928-2000) was principal trumpet for most major London orchestras: The Royal Philharmonic (1956-60), the Philharmonia (1960-64), the Philharmonic (1964-65), the New Philharmonia (1965-67) and the BBC Symphony (1967-71).
In 1951 he formed the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, making a series of renowned concert and recording performances. He was also the RNCM's first Head of Brass and was Principal of Trinity College of Music.
Trio of performances
The performances will be given at 11.30am, 3.00pm, and 7.30pm and will also feature RPS Philip Jones Brass Prize winners Lewis Chinn and Fiveby5 and will include music by Susato, Howarth, Koetsier, Bernstein, Mozart, Gade and Donoghue.
