The death of Gareth Chappell has been announced

4BR has been informed of the death of Chalford Band player Gareth Chappell, who passed away on 21st September.

Gareth from Bisley in Gloucestershire, played Bb Bass in Chalford Band for most of his life, alongside his father, sister, brother-in-law, nieces and many friends. He had also played for Lydney, Stinchcombe and Cheltenham, and was part of an award-winning bass quartet as well as helping out Flowers Band on occasions.

Trips

He participated in many local, national and international competitions and performances and enjoyed being part of numerous exchange visits with The Pionier Band in Gouda in The Netherlands and with trips to Göttingen in Germany. He appeared with the band on an ITV 'Highway' television series as well as in the 1998 film, 'Cider with Rosie'

He met his then wife Kay through banding with whom he had a daughter daughter Grace born in 2002. Though not in a brass band recently, he remained friends with many and was still an avid music lover.

Funeral

The funeral will take place on Tuesday 21st October at 1.00pm at Gloucester Crematorium. Family flowers only with donations in his memory to the charity Mind.
