Newiss joins the rail network at York

York Railway Institute Band has welcomed the signing of the experienced Kathy Newiss as their new flugel player.

Kathy was a founder member of East Yorkshire Brass in 1989, before joining EYMS/City of Hull until 2020.

Delighted

Speaking about her return to top section banding after a short break, she said: "I'm delighted to return with the band — one which is so friendly and very welcoming.

I've quickly settled in and there is a great blend of youth and experience with David Lancaster leading from the helm."

Fabulous playing

In response, the MD, said: "Everyone is thrilled to welcome Kathy. I've long admired her fabulous playing, and she brings a wealth of experience of banding at the highest level.

She's already made a very positive impact and we're all very excited about working together in our future concerts and contests."
