Following its recent success in securing financial help from the Hayward Sanderson Trust, the Scottish Borders Brass Band Association (SBBBA) has gained further significant funding of £6,500 from The Weir Charitable Trust to support key brass music initiatives across the region.
Borders Contest
It will see the popular Borders Entertainment Contest benefit by £2,500. The annual cross-border competition is for bands from Sections 2-4.
Youth & Percussion Workshops
£3,000 will also go to providing Youth Brass & Percussion Workshops which support young brass and percussion players aged 8 to 21 across the Borders.
Led by experienced conductors and professional musicians, the twice-yearly sessions focus on developing musical skills from beginners to the Scottish Borders Youth Brass Band.
Solo & Ensemble Contest
The SBBBA Youth Solo and Ensemble Contest will be boosted by £1,000 funding which will go to providing a platform for young musicians to perform solo and in small groups each February.
A delighted Stuart Black, SBBBA Chairperson told 4BR: "We are thrilled to have received this funding that allows us to run three of our biggest events that benefit players musically and socially."
