Chav Brass set for serious fun at Whit Friday

The scallywags of the Whit Friday circuit will be performing with serious ambition this year as they seek to inspire the next generation with a mix of DJ Sammy and Eric Ball...

Chav Brass
The group aim to make an awesome connection with the next generation of potential players

Chav Brass may well be well known for their deliberate scallywag appearance and fun packed performances at the Whit Friday contests, but their music making also has a very serious intent.

Over the last few years they have given the majority of their Whit Friday winnings straight back to the competitions, and this year they will be making sure the next generation of fun loving youngsters are supported in their musical endeavours.

Winnings

They informed 4BR that they have donated £250 to the Whit Friday fund to effectively paying for the 'Best Overall Youth Band' prize on the Saddleworth circuit

In addition, they will also donate another £500 to be split equally between all youth bands that manage three or more competitions on the Saddleworth circuit.

Bands wishing to claim if they meet the criteria should contact: chavbrass@yahoo.com by 30th June.

Public engagement

Their spokesperson Aidan Smith told 4BR: "We strongly believe in engaging with the public and especially our more youthful audience. If we can make your average kid stop and think, "That's awesome! — I want to have a go and play in a brass band"then we have done our job. We will hook them in with DJ Sammy and then hit them with some Eric Ball later on!!"

He added: "This is the ambition this year — to support our youth bands to allow them to keep on recruiting and training the next generation of brass banders."

New repertoire

With this in mind Chav Brass will hit the street with new repertoire this year up their Burberry print sleeves, whilst they will also feature as headliners on Saturday 14th June as part of a weekend festival run by the Albion Farm Shop & Cafe near Delph.

Tickets are available at: https://www.albionfarmshop.co.uk/turkey-tickets/turkey-tickets/ and are a bargain at only £16 for the whole weekend!!

Festival headliners

To round off the summer, Chav Brass will be in action as they appear on the main stage of the Beat-Herder Festival, on the same lineup as DJ royalty such as Armand Van Helden, Fabio & Grooverider and Hybrid Minds.

Tickets are available at: https://beatherder.co.uk/
