This Mental Health Awareness Week (12th-18th May) 'Brass on the Mind', an initiative developed to help protect the mental health of brass band musicians by Tabby Kerwin MAPP, Director of Mode for…, is celebrating its first major milestone.
With a target to train 1000 Mental Health and Wellbeing Leads in brass bands for free by 2027 through the CPD accredited 'PERFORM Certificate in Brass Band Mental Health & Wellbeing Course', it has seen 20% of its ambitious target being reached.
The theme of this year's Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK is 'community'.
Incredible action
Speaking about the milestone, Tabby told 4BR: "I'm so grateful to everyone that has enrolled in the course so far and become a mental health and wellbeing lead. There has been some incredible action taken to help make our brass bands happier, safer and healthier.
Protecting the mental health of our brass band musicians is key to futureproofing our movement and the bands that are investing time and energy in mental health protection and support resources for their organisations are reaping the benefits both on and off stage."
Tabby has made a commitment to supply the free training to meet the target of 1000 mental health and wellbeing leads to be fulfilled by 20274BR
