Of all the different records that were made or broken over the course of the recent Regional Championship series, one personal accolade that stood out was that of Whitburn Band solo trombone player Paul Kiernan.

Not only has the experienced campaigner been part of a band winning the Scottish Championships (as it is referred to) on 20 occasions, he has also won the prestigious John Campbell Medal, presented to the Championship Section's 'Best Trombone Player' a record 12 times too.

The band victories have come across two spells with Whitburn and a successful period with the cooperation band, whilst the personal award first came in 1990, with the latest in 2023.
