Brisbane Excelsior Band has announced the appointment of Benjamin Tubb-Hearne as its news Composer in Residence.
A widely respected figure in the brass band and wider arts community he moved to Brisbane in 2013 after studying at the RNCM in Manchester, joining Brisbane Excelsior Band on solo horn — a role he still holds.
Compositions
His compositions have gained critical acclaim, with works such as 'A Bournemouth Suite', 'A Brisbane Journey', 'Moonscapes' and 'The Legend of Pandora' having been played in contest and concerts across the banding world.
He has also composed a number of bespoke works for Brisbane's own solo leads such as 'Glasshouse Whispers' for Jaime Fixter (soprano) and 'Song for Coda' for Tamaryn Mirabito (flugel), whilst 'Faithful Mercies', won the hymn section at the 2023 Queensland State Championships.
