Percussion dismay over test piece choices

Over 160 percussionists have signed an open letter to the Kapitol Music Panel expressing their dismay at the choice of test-pieces.

Percsusion
Percussion requirements have become increasingly complex over recent years.

An open letter signed by over 160 percussionists has been sent to the Kapitol Promotions Music Panel expressing their dismay over what is referred to as, "the extreme inconsistency in the number, range and difficulty of percussion parts in selected test pieces, from year-to-year and from section-to-section."

Draw attention

Initiated by Tim Parris, he states that it aims to, "draw attention to some of the impacts of test piece choice on individuals, bands and banding, in the hope that the panel will consider changing the way pieces are chosen in the future."

Tim is a percussionist with Stannington Band in Yorkshire with both his wife and son also playing in bands. He also conducts Stannington's Training Band.
