Four new judges to gain experience at Cheltenham

A quartet of musicians will gain invaluable adjudication experience at the Cheltenham National Finals.

The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (AoBBA) and Kapitol Promotions have announced the four participants of the jointly promoted Adjudicators' Experience Day on Saturday 14th September at the Section 1-4 National Finals at Cheltenham.

Mentored

Melissa Brown, Joe Galuszka, Jen McCausland and Andy Wareham will join mentor Martin Heartfield in a workshop covering score preparation, the PAC (Performance Assessment Criteria) code, contest paperwork and preparation.

The four will also undertake their own adjudications for the first half of the Section 1 contest, with a post contest meeting with one of the official adjudicators to undertake a de-briefing/Q&A session.

Participants

Melissa Brown is a trombone graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance with extensive professional orchestral experience. Joe Galuszka is a Masters graduate in Composition of Music for Film and Television. He is a tutor, support staff member and arranger for the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain and has played percussion for Flowers Band.

They are joined by Jen McCausland, who is a tuba graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and current solo Eb tuba with GUS Band. The quartet is completed by Andy Wareham, a former Young Composer in Residence with Black Dyke Band and graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama where he studied brass band conducting.

Shadow judging

On Sunday 15th September, AoBBA Trainee Members Dr. Joel Collier, Chris Shanks, Tommy Tynan and Will Wilkins take part in a shadow adjudication with mentors Martin Heartfield and Christopher Bond as part of the Trainee Scheme across both Sections 4 & 2.

West Wycombe Brass Band

January 10 • West Wycombe Brass Band are looking for Cornets and Horns (negotiable) and a Flugelhorn player. All ages and standards are very welcome. Friendly Band in Buckinghamshire Village. Instruments provided if required. Own Bandroom.


Harlow Brass Band

January 10 • We are a friendly and welcoming band who hold our own Spring and Christmas concerts. We also play at various local events throughout the year. We have vacancies for BACK ROW CORNETS, TROMBONES and PERCUSSION.


Epping Forest Band

January 10 • We are a friendly 3rd section band that have a vacancy for a solo horn to complete our line up. We perform in a variety of gigs and contests throughout the year. Our band hut is located close to Epping tube station and easy access for the M11.
