Rothwell Temperance has announced the appointment of Harry Porthouse as its new principal cornet.
Hailing from the well known banding family, he joined Tredegar Band aged 15, before heading to the RNCM in Manchester in 2023 to start his studies.
In addition to numerous high-profile concert and contest appearances with them, he also played with Brass Band Oberosterreich in Austria and was a member of the National Youth Brass Bands of Wales, Scotland and Great Britain.
He recently enjoyed being part of the pioneering 'New Horizons' partnership initiative that saw him travel to play with the National Youth Brass Band of Switzerland.
Delighted
Speaking about his new role he said: "I was delighted to be asked to join Rothwell on principal cornet.
They are a band I have admired for a long time and have a great reputation for nurturing and supporting young players. I'm really looking forward to working under MD David Roberts."
Potential
In response David said: "Harry has a lot of potential and I'm confident that he will develop here at Rothwell, like many before him have who held this position.
He has already messaged me to say how much he is enjoying rehearsals, which I am glad to hear. His dad Ian and I have been friends for 40 years, so it was great to have a long phone call with Ian about Harry and his future here at Rothwell."
