The band gained success under the baton of Nigel Cooper

4BR has been informed that the nine-year musical partnership between conductor Nigel Cooper and East of England Co-op Band is to come to an end.

During his tenure, he led them to the 2022 London & Southern Counties First Section Area title, leading to promotion to the top section.

The band also won the NWMBBA contest in 2022 and gained podium finishes at the Area and Leicestershire BBA contest, as well as recording two well received CD recordings.

Nigel will continue to work with the band until his final concert on Saturday 29th June at Stowmarket Salvation Army.

Most enjoyable

Speaking about the decision Nigel said: "My nine years with East of England Co-op Band have been some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling experiences in my brass banding life.

The band is well run and has a brilliant sponsor and I feel that we have achieved a lot as a team both in contests but as importantly in concerts within the local community.

He added: "It's been my absolute privilege to the MD and lead this fantastic group of talented musicians, but now I feel it's time that a new conductor takes the baton and leads this great band in their next chapter."

Nigel has become a friend to us all and cannot be thanked enough for his dedication, musical expertise and skills making us a vibrant, happy, friendly, competitive and successful bandEast of England Co-op Band

Thanks

In response, Band Chairman Keith Moye said: "While saddened by Nigel's decision, we understand and support it fully.

Nigel has become a friend to us all and cannot be thanked enough for his dedication, musical expertise and skills making us a vibrant, happy, friendly, competitive and successful band. We look forward however to welcoming applications in the next chapter of this illustrious band."
