City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) Band has welcomed the signing of the experienced Meirion Davies as their new soprano cornet as they head to Blackpool for their appearance in the Senior Cup.

Having just finishing a decade of playing cornet with Tredegar Band he said he was delighted to return to the soprano role. "I'm joining a band with which I have a long-standing family connection,"he said.

"My uncle played for the band in the 1980's and my father was conductor at the very start of their resurgence in the early 1990's, so I'm really looking forward to help them continue to move forward and have some fun in the process."

No stranger

Welcoming his new signing, Musical Director, Christopher Bond Music, added: "Meirion is no stranger to us, having helped us on many occasions, most recently at the Welsh Open.

We are really looking forward to having him on soprano — a role he is already at home with."
