Newstead Brass has announced the appointment of the experienced Martin Heartfield as its new Musical Director.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "With an illustrious banding career spanning over thirty years, Martin brings a wealth of experience and a deep passion for brass bands to the role."

The appointment follows the band's runner-up finish together at the recent ConsTest contest in Birmingham, and as they prepare for the start of a busy 50th anniversary concert schedule.

The spokesperson added: "We're delighted to welcome Martin on a full-time basis. His extensive experience and musical expertise will undoubtedly continue to enrich our performances and inspire our players.
