New additions to Stamford Brass

A warm welcome has been given to two experienced additions to the ranks at Stamford Brass.

Stamford Brass has welcomed further signings to their ranks.

The Midlands Area First Section band currently enjoys a line-up of more than the regulation 25 brass players, but always finds room for players who wish to join.

Experience

This now includes the experienced flugel player Paul Hing. His wide-ranging playing career has seen him perform with several bands as well as being Leicester City Football Club's official 'Post Horn Gallop' player when the team runs out at home fixtures.

He arrives after playing cornet with Desford Colliery Band for the last 10 years, and said his move had enabled him to "renew"his flugel horn interest.

Full time

Also arriving is the experienced conductor and player Ian Knapton (right)who is now able to commit to the band on a full time basis on trombone.

It follows a few months of rehearsals and assisting the band at both the Bolsover contest and the Area contest in Corby, where they secured their highest ever finish.

Now playing again, he said; "Stamford is a band I've followed for many years and enjoyed competing against as a conductor.

They have a great commitment level and ideas for the future, so I'm very happy to join them and hopefully add my experience."
