The Cory Band has enjoyed an early celebration with the presentation of their two band awards for 2023 at a recent post-rehearsal curry night.
Principal Eb tuba Tommy Tynan was presented with the 'Player of the Year' award whilst long serving percussionist Steve Jones added another personal accolade to his collection as 'Member of the Year' in recognition of their outstanding contributions both on and off stage.
Chuffed
Reflecting on their awards on their Facebook pages, Steve said that he was "rather humbled" by the unexpected honour, whilst Tommy said that he was "absolutely chuffed" to have his name now engraved on a shield "full of legends" of the band.

Impact
Speaking about the awards, MD Philip Harper added: "In only his first full calendar year with the band Tommy has made a big impact amongst his peers, appearing many times as a soloist and wowing audiences at home and abroad.
Apart from one COVID-enforced absence he also maintained a 100% attendance record throughout the year, and has further developed his creativity by playing his own music in concerts."
He added: "Steve is our phenomenal drum kit player. This award is presented to the person their colleagues think has been the best team-member throughout the year and, as well as his excellence amongst the percussion section, Steve also plays a large part in the logistics operation of Cory Band."
