The final chord has been reached on the remarkable brass band career of Mike Cotter.
The former player and conductor has made the decision after notching up 75 years of outstanding commitment and dedication to the banding movement
True legend
His friend, Mike Scotson told 4BR: "Mike is a true legend in the world of brass bands. He not only dedicated his life to it but has also achieved the highest honours, leaving an indelible mark on all those who have had the privilege to play and work with him."
Mike Cotter was a player in the 1960's with the renowned CWS (Manchester) Band, before making the transition in conducting, leading the likes of Darwen British Legion, Camborne, Flowers, Longridge, and Alvins Walkden.
He was also a founder member of the Serendipity Brass Ensemble, a project that not only showcased his musical prowess but also his ability to bring together a diverse group of players to provide outstanding music making to audiences.

Mike Scotson added: "Everyone will miss his immediate presence, but he has said he will be the first in line for tickets future concerts. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of musicians and conductors to come.
