The Elland Silver Band organisation has been awarded £500 from Localgiving and Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, a grant-giving charity funded by players of People's Postcode Lottery.
The funding boost will enable the Yorkshire band to again offer free music instrumental music taster sessions in local schools to help widen the opportunities for youngsters to learn to play a brass band instrument.
Partnership
The band currently works in partnership with Crosslane and Old Earth School in Elland to provide over 120 children in Year 3 and 4 (aged 7 — 9 years) with the opportunity, with the additional funding earmarked so that the scheme can be expanded.
Opportunity
Elland Silver Youth Band MD, Samantha Harrison, told 4BR: "We are keen to give as many local children as possible the opportunity to make music on a brass instrument."
We already have an established training programme in place for children and adults of all ages and abilities, and this funding will help us to work with additional schools a wonderful musical opportunity for free.
