Sandhurst Silver Band has announced the appointment of Joshua Geddes as its new Resident Musical Director.

Joshua has enjoyed a richly diverse conducting career in his home nation, Australia, including opera, musical theatre, choirs and wind ensembles. He won the 2018 International Brass Band Conductors Association annual competition.

An alumnus of the Victorian College of the Arts and the Elder Conservatorium of Music, Joshua is currently honing his skills on a Masters Course in Conducting at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, working extensively on brass band conducting with Ian Porthouse.

Delighted

Speaking about the appointment he said: "I'm delighted to be asked to work with Sandhurst. From my first rehearsal I was excited by how responsive they were and how they worked in such a positive atmosphere. I look forward to the many exciting performances together."

Excited

In response a band spokesperson told 4BR: "We are also excited to build on recent successes and to continue to develop under Joshua's baton. We extend our gratitude to the outgoing conducting duo of Russ Young and David Johnson.

Their dedication, focus, and determination have propelled the band to its present standing."
