The Tongwynlais Temperance Band recently took part in a community remembrance event that saw the residents of Whitchurch near Cardiff rededicate their village War Memorial.
Amongst the many engraved names of those who made the ultimate sacrifice was that of Musician Richard G Fice.
Aged only 22, Richard was one of the eleven musicians murdered in an IRA atrocity at the Royal Marines Barracks at Deal in Kent on 22nd September 1989.
Bandsman
Richard was originally from Whitchurch and played in the South Glamorgan Youth Band, an ensemble where many Tongwynlais players have also learned to enjoy their music making.
Richard's parents has since endowed an annual £2,000 prize in his memory, which this year was won by Sol Maghur, a talented cornet and trumpet player with the Parc & Dare Band
Honour
A band spokesperson told 4BR: "We were honoured to be invited to participate in the service and for the opportunity to be part of the life of our local community to honour those who gave their lives."
