Band Supplies Scottish Challenge reverts to own-choice format

Bands will have a free choice of works for the Bands Supplies Scottish Challenge Contest later this year.

Scottish Open
The contest will take place at Perth Concert Hall.

The Scottish Brass Band Association has confirmed that following discussions with bands and members of its Events Committee, it has been decided that the Band Supplies Scottish Challenge Contest will revert to an own-choice format.

It follows concerns raised that the previous stipulation of bands having to play works of Gilbert Vinter was too restrictive given the limited amount of repertoire he wrote for bands below Championship Section level.

Own choice

The contest on Saturday 18th November at Perth Concert Hall will now be a free own-choice selection. The event will be adjudicated by John Doyle and Owen Farr.

SBBA Contest Controller Peter Fraser stated: "We've listened to the feedback and decided that a free choice of repertoire is more suitable. We hope this will encourage more bands to consider entering what is always an exciting contest."
