There is a great opportunity this Sunday (28th May at 4.30pm) to gain a deeper understanding of the wonderful music of the composer Kenneth Downie.
Dr. Jonathan Corry is leading a free 'Play Through' session of many of his marches, hymn settings and large scale works written for brass band with a view not only of finding out more about their inspiration and structure, but to simply to enjoy playing them.
All welcome
All are welcome to come and take part in the event that takes place at The Salvation Army, Belfast Temple Corps at 110 Cregagh Road in Belfast (BT6 9ES) with the day aimed at players of around Grade 6 standard.
Delve and enjoy
Speaking to 4BR, Jonathan said: "It follows on from the successful 'Play Through' afternoon we held last November based on classical music with guest soloist Neil Gallie.
Kenneth Downie's music is beloved by players of Salvationist and non-Salvationist backgrounds and this gives us all the change to delve a little deeper into our understanding and to simply enjoy performing the works."
It is hoped the afternoon will be an opportunity for new friendships and encourage a community spirit based on the shared commonality between SA and contest bands.
