The 17-year musical partnership between conductor Chris King and Friary Brass Band has come to an end.
During his tenure he led them from the First Section to claim five consecutive Championship Section London & Southern Counties Regional titles between 2015 and 2019 as well as becoming a competitive contender at major events. He led the band back to the Albert Hall once again earlier this year.
That saw them claim two 'Audience Entertainment' awards at the Brass in Concert Championship as well as three 'Most Entertaining Band' trophies at the Butlins Mineworkers contest.
They also finished on the cusp of top-ten finishes at the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall as well as win the Senior Trophy at the British Open Spring Festival.
He will continue to work with Friary developing this year's programme for Brass in Concert and will take his final contesting bow at the forthcoming Whit Friday contests.
Happy memories
Speaking about the decision he said: "My years at Friary are filled with many happy memories, not just of contest successes but also the numerous concerts and a staggering number of rehearsals!
It's been immense fun and a privilege to work with these talented and committed players, but it's now time to hand over the baton to a fresh face to build on what we've achieved together."

New MD
It has been confirmed that following him taking the band at the recent Grand Shield contest in Blackpool, the experienced Nigel Taken has accepted the invitation to become the new MD.
His CV includes successful tenures at Aveley & Newham (claiming two Area titles and the Grand Shield) for many years, as well as Medway, Bournemouth Concert Brass, Thundersley and Becontree amongst others.
Delighted
Speaking about the appointment Band Chairman David Wicks said: "When Chris took a break for the Grand Shield we were delighted that Nigel agreed to step in.
With Chris' subsequent decision to move on to new challenges and develop further his arranging, adjudicating and work as part of the European Brass Band Association executive, we have invited Nigel to become our new permanent MD."
In response, Nigel added: "I'm thrilled to take over from Chris, who's brought Friary so far during his tenure. I'm looking forward to seeing how much further we can build on his firm foundation with this excellent group of players."
