'Beautiful Bones', a massed outdoor street theatre and music spectacle to be performed as part of 'Freedom Festival' in the City of Hull in September, is looking for keen trombonists to play a proactive part.
'Beautiful Bones' is a large-scale outdoor street spectacle and musical pandemonium that reframes the rituals of death as a celebration of life.
Day of the Dead
The performances and music draw inspiration from the Mardi Gras, 1990's rave culture and Mexico's 'Day of the Dead' with a theme of general celebration, comedic irreverence and blissful acceptance to what have traditionally been dour and often miserable rituals.
Open to all
A spokesperson told told 4BR: "Playing alongside renowned trombonist John Kenny with original music from award-winning composer Stephen Deazley, 'Beautiful Bones' offers a flexible musical score written for wide levels of skill and experience and is suitable for amateur trombone players from Grade 4 to professional standard, for those over the age of 14.
John is professor of trombone at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and recipient of the International Trombone Association's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Stephen has led community music performances for BBC Proms in the Park and the Commonwealth Games, and his music has been performed at the Royal Albert Hall, the Southbank and Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.
Sheet music
The spokesperson added: "Sheet music will be available but is easy enough to be learned by ear. If you have a thirst for musical adventure, then this is for you."
The Championship Section City Hull Band will be in attendance alongside members of Hull Music Service as will plenty of primary school PBone players, and will be directed by Alan Richardson from Surge, Scotland's circus and street theatre development agency and designed by inspirational artist, maker and performer, Alex Rigg.
