The Brass Band Conductors' Association (BBCA) has announced the major contest works that will be used to test the musical interpretation and baton skills of its 12 competition semi-finalists at its annual event on 17th June at Eccles Town Hall.
The semi-finalists will have the opportunity to rehearse British Open and National finalists Hammonds Band on a section of either 'The World Rejoicing' by Edward Gregson or 'Sounds' by John Golland.
Demanding composition
Speaking about the initiative and the use of his work, Edward Gregson said: "I'm very pleased that 'The World Rejoicing' has bene chosen to test the conductors. It is a demanding composition in many ways for the conductor, not least in trying to delineate the textures and contrapuntal lines.
An acquaintance with other symphonic variation forms will also help to achieve an overall structural coherence. I wish them all the best in their endeavours".
